Reading time...

One of the first strategies we learn as a reader is to point to each word as we read. We have to also look at the pictures to help us work out words. We talk about the characters in the story.
Kristin, Gaevry, Nihaansh, Nadith, George and Muhammad are trying their best with pointing to each word. Ka pai!

  2. Hi there, my name is Ruby and I am a student in room 12 at New Windsor School. I really like how they are learning to read using their fingers . It made me think of when I first started learning how to read, I learnt in the same way. Have you thought about what you want them to read about?

    1. Hi Ruby. The children are learning lots of early strategies to help them with reading. I want the children to enjoy the books they read so they need to relate to their level. Sometimes the variety of books is limited at the very young level and it is about repetition and learning words. I do enjoy the Joy Cowley selection and love Greedy Cat! The children enjoy Greedy Cat books too :)

  3. Hi there, my name is Muket and I am a student in room 11 at New Windsor School. I really like this class because I like the way they read. It made me think of my class reading . Have you thought about maybe not using fingers, try using your eyes.

    1. Hi Muket, yes the children will learn to use their eyes after they know how to follow the words in the book. These children are very new to reading so first they learn to point, and they have to learn to read words as well. So much for them to remember! In 8 weeks they should be able to read without using their fingers.
